Since establishing his Priorat-based winery in 1989 after a stint working at Château Pétrus, Alvaro Palacios has quickly come to be recognised as one of Spain’s greatest winemakers and with a focus on local varieties from exceptionally old, low-yielding vines, he is consistently crafting some of the country’s finest wines. Finca Dofi is mostly Grenache with a small amount of Cariñena from a plot in the village of Gratallops planted between 1900 and 1940 on a precipitous hillside with typical ‘llicorella’ slate soils. The 2014 is a wonderfully rich, silky and elegant wine with delicious purity of red fruits, subtle herbal nuances, ultra-fine tannins and a distinctive mineral-tinged finish.
