In a deep garnet-purple hue, the 2021 Clos du Clocher unveils a captivating nose of stewed plums, blackberry pie, and Morello cherries, enhanced by hints of fertile loam, cardamom, and black olives. Medium-bodied and mouth-coating, the palate delights in the presence of lively black fruits, supported by a vibrant backbone and velvety tannins. The finish boasts a delightful sense of purity that leaves a lasting impression.
The 2021 Clos du Clocher retains what is quite an opulent bouquet, violet petals infusing the upfront black cherry and blueberry fruit. There is fine delineation and focus to the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied, with a vein of graphite on the entry and moderate depth, showing good cohesion. An almost Left Bank finish feels just a bit drier than expected, but at least there is freshness here. It will cohere with another two or three years in bottle. - Neil Martin
