A Grenache-dominant wine with small amounts of Syrah and Mourvèdre. Its deep ruby hue hints at the richness within. Aromas of ripe black fruits, garrigue, and subtle spices lead to a palate of dark cherries, plums, and black olives, balanced by firm tannins and lively acidity. Earthy notes of leather and tobacco add depth, reflecting the age of the wine, with a savoury, lingering finish. Michel Chapoutier, is known for his commitment to biodynamic farming, which enhances the wine’s expression of its origins.
- Medium cherry-red color. Aroma of maraschino cherry. Seems a bit high-toned, like the Croix de Bois, but here I don't find a lot of flesh or sweetness. Has a restrained, cedary character and modest inner-mouth aromatics. Finishes with slightly drying tannins. Not a great showing.

M. Chapoutier

M. Chapoutier

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
