Domaine Hudelot-Baillet Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques 2022 is a medium-to-full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of Les Borniques in the commune of Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits. Hudelot-Baillet is a family-owned winery, currently led by Dominique Leguen, who is the son-in-law of Joël Hudelot-Baillet. Leguen joined the estate after his service in the air force in 1998 and has been responsible for winemaking since 2002. While their vineyards are primarily located in the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, they produce a diverse range of wines, ranging from the prestigious Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares to Bourgogne Rouge and Blanc. This release comes from the Premier Cru of Les Borniques, where Hudelot-Baillet owns a 0.10-hectare plot. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy is regarded as one of the best in recent years, producing an abundance of ripe, full-flavoured Pinot Noirs with excellent balancing acidity.
The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques 1er Cru, one of the "up and coming" Premiers of Chambolle, has a minerally, open nose - more black than red fruit, touches of incense emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It’s more understated and less minerally than Les Charmes, with a succulent blueberry and cassis-tinged finish. Perhaps the most seductive of their 2022s this vintage. - Neil Martin
