Caritas is a relatively new winery, led by husband-and-wife team John Raytek and Phoebe Bass. Centrally located in Northern Sonoma County, Ceritas makes terroir-driven wines with sourced grapes that are farmed organically and without irrigation. This Pinot Noir hails from Occidental Vineyard which was planted in 1990 using heritage selection massale Pinot Noir material. Produced by Ceritas since 2016, each vintage of Occidental has been received with unanimous critical acclaim.
The 2020 Pinot Noir Occidental Vineyard is the most potent of the Ceritas Pinots. Black cherry, spice, menthol, licorice, tobacco and cedar infuse the 2020 with tons of aromatic nuance to play off the pliant, layered fruit. This virile, deep Pinot is seriously impressive, as it has a real backbone of depth. - Antonio Galloni
