Sonoma Coast
This extensive Californian AVA runs from Mendocino (in the north), along the Pacific Ocean, all the way down to Marin County and San Pablo Bay in the south. The Pacific Ocean has a large impact on the climate, making for cool growing conditions with the influence of cool ocean breezes and fogs. Key varietals include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and, to a lesser extent, Cabernet Sauvignon. Widely considered home to some of the greatest producers of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the region, look out for sensationally sleek, Burgundy-esque Pinot Noirs and glorious stone fruited, refreshing Chardonnays.
