Giacosa Barolo 1999 is an exceptional example of Barolo from one of Piedmont’s most celebrated producers. Bruno Giacosa, renowned for his meticulous winemaking and uncompromising focus on quality, crafted this wine from some of the finest vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba and La Morra. The 1999 vintage is widely regarded for its balance, structure, and longevity, producing wines with the depth and complexity for which Barolo is renowned. This Barolo presents aromas of dried roses, ripe red cherries, and earthy truffles, underpinned by a subtle hint of liquorice. The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, with firm tannins and a bright acidity, ensuring it will continue to evolve beautifully in the bottle. A wine that perfectly captures the essence of traditional Barolo, this is a stunning choice for collectors looking for a wine with both elegance and further ageing potential.
Medium red. Giacosa's 1999 Barolo is a great introduction to the vintage. It offers an open, sweet nose of roses, spices, menthol, minerals, cocoa and smoke followed by a core of ripe cherry fruit on a medium-bodied frame with excellent length, good balance, and firm tannins that will require a few years in the bottle to soften. More ethereal and less fruit-driven than the sweeter 2000, it is great effort at the normale level. An Azienda Agricola Falletto di Bruno Giacosa bottling.

Bruno Giacosa

Bruno Giacosa

Born in 1945, Bruno Giacosa began working at his father's wine cellar at the age of 16. Without formal training, Bruno rose to become one of Italy's greatest winemakers, producing some of Piedmont's most iconic reds. Producing both Barolo and Barbaresco, Bruno focussed heavily on sourcing fruit from the finest crus in the area. The estate only began building up vineyard holdings in the early 1980s and today have around 20 hectares under vine.

Bruno passed away in 2018 and since then the winery has been managed by his daughter Bruna who continues the traditional of careful winemaking and terroir-focussed grape selection. Since 2012 the winery have produced Barolo and Barbaresco entirely from estate-grown fruit. In extra special vintages a red-label Reserva is bottled, representing the very peak of fine Piedmontese winemaking. The purity of the fruit is the primary concern the team at Giacosa, ageing takes place in large, untoasted inactive barrels for around 20 months.
