Established in 1996 as a joint project between by Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton-Rothschild and Concha y Toro, Almaviva was set to elevate Chile as a serious fine wine producer. The 2018 vintage consists of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Carmenère, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. On the nose, aromas of redcurrants, rose petals, dried herbs, tobacco and some earthy notes. The palate reveals a full-bodied wine, with round, ripe and refined tannins.
- The 2018 Almaviva is a Bordeaux blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Carménère, 3% Petit Verdot and 6% Cabernet Franc from Puente Alto, Maipo, that spent 18 months in French barrels, 73% new and the rest second-use. Made during a mild year. The nose delivers crystal-clear layers of black currant and raspberry, plus hints of basil, black tea and spices. Intense but gentle on the palate, with a creamy, refreshing mouthfeel. The tannins are pleasant and refined, resulting in a balanced but powerful expression, enlivened by the rich alcohol.
