Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots
Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
The largest Premier Cru in the Vosne-Romanée appellation, Les Suchots sits on the northern border of Vosne-Romanée village, with the Grand Crus of Romenée-Saint Vivant and Richebourg to the south, and Echézeaux to the north. The vineyard is planted exclusively to Pinot Noir. The name ‘Suchots’ is thought to derive from the French word ‘souches’, referring to the woodland which existed here centuries ago, before vines were planted.
Les Suchots is home to many leading producers, including Domaine Prieuré Roch, Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat, Domaine Sylvain Cathiard, whose Pinot Noirs from this vineyard can often attain the sumptuousness and nobility of those of the neighbouring Grands Crus. Concentrated and beautifully perfumed these wines also possess the characteristic silky texture and finesse of Vosne-Romanée. They are best enjoyed after 10 or more years of cellaring.
