Nino Franco

World Class Prosecco

In a sea of unremarkable Prosecco, Cantine Franco stands out as an island of quality and individuality. Still run by the charismatic septuagenarian Primo Franco, the estate boasts vineyard holdings in some of the best sites of the Valdobbiadene zone – the birthplace of Prosecco, where the Franco family began making Prosecco wine in 1919.

The Franco estate was established in the now-famous Veneto hillside village of Valdobbiadene by Primo’s grandfather, Antonio, who was succeeded by his son, Nino. But it was when the third generation of the family, Primo, took over in 1982 that Cantine Franco really took off. The light yet exuberant Prosecco wines (typified in the low-dosage brut Rustico cuvée) produced here are above all an expression of Primo’s creative and irrepressible personality – clearly of a superior quality, they invariably possess luxuriant fruity notes, and immense second-sippability.
