Central Coast
This sizeable AVA stretches from San Francisco to Santa Barbara, running parallel to the Pacific Ocean coastline and extending around 60 miles inland from the coast, with the Southern Coast Ranges running north south. For reds, key varieties include Syrah and Grenache both in varietally-led wines and in exciting red blends. For white wines, Roussanne and Chardonnay play a central role. The key name on everyone’s lips here is cult winery, Sine Qua Non, where winemaker, Manfred Krankl crafts tiny quantities of unique Rhône-inspired wines from exceptional vineyards across the Californian Central Coast.
