California

The largest wine producing state in the USA, ‘California’ is the official state-wide AVA for wines produced from grapes entirely grown in the state. Home to many excellent red and white blends as well as characteristic grape varieties including Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The key name on everyone’s lips here is cult winery, Sine Qua Non, where winemaker, Manfred Krankl crafts tiny quantities of unique Rhône-inspired wines from exceptional vineyards across the Californian Central Coast. Further stellar producers include the highly acclaimed Pride Mountain Vineyards and Jean-Charles Boisset (JCB), to name but a few.
