Yquem 2011 Half is a full-bodied noble sweet wine from the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux. Château d’Yquem is a Premier Cru Supérieur Classé property in Sauternes, Bordeaux, and is widely regarded as the greatest producer of sweet wine in the region, perhaps even the world. It is a blend of botrytised Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc that is painstakingly hand-harvested, berry by berry, and is matured for 42 months in new French oak. On the 2011. "A lovely, creamy, tropical style, with mango, papaya and guava notes lending a caressing feel, while singed almond and warm piecrust accents blossom through the lush finish. Just when you think that`s all there is, toasted coconut, fig, orange blossom and persimmon details kick in, lending length and dimension. The finish is ridiculously long." Wine Spectator, 2014
- The 2011 Yquem was picked over four tries from 6 September, the earliest for 125 years until 5 October. Slightly paler in colour compared to the 2001 alongside, it has a well defined and slightly Germanic bouquet with that petrol note still present, allied with peach and apricot, honeysuckle and desiccated orange peel. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, a slight waxy texture, mango and quince laced with a touch of lemongrass towards the refined and quite approachable finish. What a pretty Yquem the 2011 is turning into.

Chateau d`Yquem

Chateau d`Yquem

Considered by many to be the peak of fine sweet wine, Château d'Yquem manage around over 100 hectares of vineyards in Sauternes planted with a mixture of 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are only picked when the so-called 'noble rot' has fully taken hold and yields are, as a result, meagre - it's said that each vine at d'Yquem produces a single glass of wine.

Fermentation takes place in 100% new oak and the wine is left to mature for up to three years before release. Characterised by an exotic richness in youth, the wine has the ability to age for untold decades. A second wine 'Y de Yquem' is produced in select vintages, a dry counterpart to the Grand Vin.
