Pierrick Bouley Volnay Champans 2021 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of Champans in the Volnay appellation of the Côte de Beaune. Having run his family domaine since 2014, Pierrick Bouley has emerged as one of the leading vignerons in Volnay, producing terroir-driven wines with minimal intervention and minimal added sulphur. His 1er Cru Volnay Champans is produced from a tiny 0.13ha parcel of 45-year-old vines close to the village. No new oak is used. Succulent and stylish, with an impressive weight of dark, spicy fruit and a refreshing streak of minerality.
The 2021 Volnay Champans 1er Cru has a little more detail and mineralité on the nose compared directly with the Santenots, the fruit slightly more red than black. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins, fleshier in style with more Pinoté towards the elegant finish.
