Volnay Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee Carnot Bouchard 2015

HED98100 75cl 13.5%
The Volnay Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee Carnot Bouchard 2015 presents a vibrant ruby hue. On the nose, it offers an intricate bouquet of red cherries, raspberries, and subtle floral notes, complemented by hints of spice and earthiness. The palate provides clarity, with balanced acidity that enhances the fruit character while revealing underlying mineral undertones typical of the Volnay terroir.

This wine comes from the esteemed Caillerets vineyard in the Cote de Beaune, known for its elegant Pinot Noir. Bouchard Père & Fils, a respected name in Burgundy, emphasizes traditional winemaking techniques. The 2015 vintage is marked by warmer weather, contributing to a ripe and approachable wine profile, ideal for enjoyment in its youth or with some age.

The 2015 Volnay Les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot 1er Cru has a beautiful, enticing, engaging bouquet, featuring marvelously detailed red berry fruit laced with crushed stone and black truffle. The palate is very detailed and precise, with crisp acidity, an insistent grip, and blacker and sappier fruit emerging toward a finish that lingers in the mouth. This is more backward on the palate than the nose, so I would afford it three or four years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Bouchard Pere et Fils

Bouchard Pere et Fils

Established in 1731, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and largest wine estates in the Côte d’Or. In 1995, the estate was acquired by the Henriot family, whose portfolio also includes William Fèvre, Beaux Frères, Château de Poncié and Champagne Henriot. Bouchard boasts vineyard holdings totalling approximately 130 hectares, including 74ha of Premiers Crus and 12ha of Grand Crus, with as many as 450 different individual plots. While the maison’s vast mosaic of holdings are weighted towards the Côte de Beaune, the Côte de Nuits is also a major focus.

The maison’s original vineyard was purchased by Joseph Bouchard in Volnay Les Caillerets in 1775. Not long after Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus followed. Now one of four Bouchard monopole vineyards, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jésus was once owned by the Carmelite order of nuns and is the source of Bouchard’s flagship wine. Bouchard’s extensive suite of wines is produced and aged at the state-of-the-art, gravity-fed Cuverie Saint Vincent in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Once bottled, the wines are stored beneath the historic Château de Beaune, built in the 15th century by King Louis XI and purchased by Bernard Bouchard in 1820.

With almost 300 years of savoir-faire, from its unrivalled multiplicity of terroirs, Bouchard stands as one of the most eminent names in Burgundy winemaking.
