Just 30 minutes from Lisbon, Colares DOC is the most westerly wine region in Europe. Once an incredibly popular wine-producing region with over 1000 hectares of vineyards, it almost became extinct in the latter half of the 20th Century and today covers just 20 hectares. Though production is tiny, the specialism of the region is wonderfully expressive and remarkably long-lived wines made from incredibly old, ungrafted vines that grow in deep, sandy soils. This rare wine is made from 100% Ramisco which is a variety known for its savoury complexity, vibrant acidity and delightfully elegant length.
