Situated on the western expanse of the Pomerol plateau in close proximity to Pétrus and Lafleur, Château Trotanoy spans around 7 hectares of vineyards. A predominant 90% of the vineyard is dedicated to Merlot, while the remaining portion is allocated to Cabernet Franc. The 2005 vintage reveals great delicacy and a silky texture. Expect notes of cherries, pine nuts, black tea, pink pepper and rosewood.
The 2005 Trotanoy replicated its previous showings. It still has a dense, almost impenetrable bouquet, layer upon layer of intense red fruit lacked with bay leaf, black truffle, those iris and violets (particularly the first on this occasion.) The palate is even more structured here than I remember it in Hong Kong back in November 2016. huge backbone, great depth but everything is alleviated by the silver thread of acidity. I would not go near this for another decade but to repeat my previous sentiments – what enormous potential. Served by Christian Moueix at lunch. - Neil Martin

Chateau Trotanoy

Chateau Trotanoy

One of Pomerol's leading estates, Trotanoy was purchased by the Mouiex family in the mid-1950s. Farming around eight hectares of vines around a kilometre away from Petrus, the Trotanoy plantings are 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on clay and gravel soils. The grapes are hand-harvested before being pressed and fermented in concrete vats. Maturation takes place in oak barriques, around 75% of which are new, for 18 months before being bottled unfiltered.

The wine's bold, concentrated style is a favourite with critics and connoisseurs alike with The Wine Advocate's Robert Parker dubbing Trotanoy "one of my favourite estates".
