Thorne and Daughters Rocking Horse 2022 is a full-bodied, blended white wine from the Western Cape of South Africa. Thorne and Daughters is a boutique winery founded in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe. ‘Rocking Horse’ is a white blend named after a wooden rocking horse in their home. The wine combines multiple grape varieties to create a wine that captures the essence of the Cape Winelands. The exact composition of the blend may vary from year to year, but it typically includes Roussanne, Chenin Blanc, Sémillon, and Chardonnay, among others. Producer note on the 2022 vintage. "A layered and complex nose reveals green pineapple, kumquat, nori, and lime leaf, leading into a nervy, focused palate of citrus, ginger and stone fruit with a long taut, slightly saline finish."
The 2022 White Blend Rocking Horse Cape is mainly Roussanne and Semillon (this blend changes every year) sourced from seven vineyards. This misses a little definition on the nose, cohering with aeration, bringing crushed stone, linden and wet wool scents. This bides its time. The palate is fresh on the entry with lemon rind and orange pith, fresh and energetic, quite linear and saline, though just a little shorter on the finish at the moment. Very fine.
