Since 1998 Kai Schubert has been growing and producing intense and complex wines that have earned international acclaim and recognition. Vivid purple colour in the glass with distinctive aromas of plum, blackcurrant, cinnamon spice and woodsmoke. It is youthful, open-knit and cool-climate in feel with delicious lingering flavours of dark berries, forest floor and dried herbs.
- The 2019 Syrah is silky, savory and spiced. It's like a good chili margarita: its agave-like flavor, white pepper and clove characters are most apparent, with fleshy fruit underneath. It's succulent and fresh and has started to throw off its primary let-me-at-em youth, becoming more supple and mellow. I can see this developing over the coming decade however.
