Sanmarco is a Super Tuscan produced by Castello dei Rampolla, a family-run wine estate situated in the Chianti Classico region. It was first produced in 1980, after early vintages of Sassicaia impressed Alceo di Napoli, Castello di Rampolla`s owner. Sammarco is a Cabernet-dominant blend, with a small percentage of Sangiovese and Merlot. The 2000 vintage has aged very well, in a similar Bordeaux style, combining notes of rich red fruits, pencil lead, cedar and some hints of coffee.
