Hailing from California`s Russian River Valley, this 100% Syrah from the 2012 vintage packs a punch with a heady 15% abv. Ripe boysenberry, blackberry and wild huckleberry are on the forefront. Then a soft undercurrent of cured beef that is typical of this vineyard. On the palate the more savoury notes shine through. A montage of cocoa nibs, charcoal and seared duck flash as the finish comes with a gratifying grip. Radio-Coteau was founded in 2002 by Eric Sussman, a native of New York State who arrived on the California wine scene via an agriculture degree at Cornell University and a stint with a small Washington wine producer. Radio-Coteau is a colloquial French expression meaning ‘word of mouth’, which is how Eric’s wines are normally discovered.
