Discover the Puligny Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère Henri Boillot 2022, a notable offering from the esteemed Domaine Henri Boillot, established in 2005 but rooted in a rich winemaking heritage. This wine originates from the Premier Cru ‘Clos de la Mouchère’, where Henri Boillot own 4ha, with 84-year-old vines. 50% of the wine is matured in new oak barrels the rest in first fill. It showcases a profile often characterised by purity and precision, underpinned by a distinctive salinity typical of this appellation. This release reflects the complexity of the terroir.
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère 1er Cru is one of the most shut down of the whites in this vast range. Mineral and savory notes abound, but fruit is decidedly pushed into the background. Citrus confit, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper all race across the palate. There's quite a bit of youthful austerity at this stage, but this should come together in time. A whole range of complex floral and tropical nuances linger. - Antonio Galloni

Henri Boillot

Henri Boillot

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
