Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 2015 is a Premier Cru white Burgundy from the lieu-dit of Les Combettes in the village of Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. The wines of Etienne Sauzet are among the most sought-after in Puligny. The Premiers and Grands Crus, in particular, tend to be models of concentration with restraint. Etienne Sauzet tends to dial down the use of new oak, preferring a level of around 20% new for its 1er Cru Chardonnays. The domaine vineyards have been farmed biodynamically since 2010. "Musky limey lift to the fruit-driven aromas of lemon and mandarin orange. Suave, seamless wine with lovely richness and no edges, but very youthful and more citrussy than the Champ-Canet, showing less easy sweetness. This concentrated, nicely delineated wine mounts slowly and lingers on the elegant, vibrant aftertaste. A lovely sexy wine for aging." Vinous, 2017
The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru has a rich and slightly honeyed bouquet with hints of hazelnut, green olive and pressed flowers. The palate is balanced, with a lightly spiced, ginger-tinged entry. It feels very tight and backward at the moment, although it does convey energy toward the finish; therefore, I am inclined to give this two or three years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
