Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red 2009 is a notable assembly from a vineyard established in 1981 by Jayson Pahlmeyer, who utilised “suitcase clones” purportedly smuggled from France. His founding philosophy was to create a “California Mouton”, and he has undoubtedly secured his winery’s reputation as one of the finest producers of Bordeaux varieties in Napa.

This vintage features a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. The wine displays concentrated notes of crème de cassis, mocha, violet flowers, and cigar smoke, revealing a complexity rooted in its meticulous production.

- Full ruby-red. Deep, slightly medicinal aromas of dark berries, kirsch, mocha, cocoa powder and licorice. Plush, suave and fine-grained, conveying lovely texture and sweetness to its flavors of black fruits, licorice, minerals, herbs and pepper framed by slightly edgy acidity and firm oak-driven tannins. Still a bit medicinal on the aftertaste but has the density for further positive evolution in bottle. (15.2% alcohol)
