Situated in the town of Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa, Artadi has achieved acclaim despite its divergence from the local Rioja wine association. Pagos Viejos is classified as Vino de Mesa and sourced from Tempranillo vines dating back to 1945. It underwent an 18-month ageing period in new French oak. Fully mature, the 1997 vintage is expected to maintain this exceptional quality for many years. Exhibiting notes of cedar and graphite, it bears a resemblance to a mature left bank Bordeaux.
