Nuits St Georges Clos des Corvees Prieure-Roch 1995

Based in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine Prieuré Roch is a relatively new producer, formed in 1988 by Henry-Frédéric Roch. Henry, who sadly passed away in 2018, was the nephew of Lalou-Bize Leroy and also the co-director – alongside Aubert de Villaine – of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from 1992 until his untimely death. Today, the estate covers approximately 16 hectares of vines – of which 12 are in the Côte de Nuits – and its winemaking philosophy is built upon an organic approach to viticulture. The result are wines that are typically very aromatic, with remarkable acidity and ripe, complex fruits. This particular release hails from Clos des Corvées, a five-hectare Premier Cru monopole which was acquired in 1995 from General Denis Gouacho. 1995 was a vintage that yielded a small crop but produced high-quality wines built for long ageing.

Prieure Roch

Founded in 1988 by Henri-Frédéric Roch, whose family are part-owners of the famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Prieure Roch produce wine from vineyard parcels in communes as diverse as Ladoix, Chambertin, Vosne Romanée and Savigny Les Beune. Farming of the vineyards is done to organic standards, veering towards full biodynamics in some instances and cellar techniques are strictly traditional - vinified in large wooden vats, manual punching down and without the use of sulphur.

Wines are kept in barrel for 12-24 months before bottling, although some experiments with extended ageing have taken place - most notably in 2002. These are elegant wines with the ripeness and poise that one would expect from a family that also produce arguable some of the world's great Pinot Noir
