Mullineux Straw Wine 2023 is a sweet wine produced from Chenin Blanc grapes in the Swartland region of South African. Made with grapes sourced from a 45-year-old vineyard on decomposed granite soil on the Paardeberg mountain foothills and a 41-year-old schist soil vineyard on Kasteelberg, this half bottle 2023 Straw Wine comes in at 7.5% ABV and 336g/l residual sugar. Producer note. "This sweet chenin blanc reflects a bright golden colour which becomes almost luminous in the light as one swirls the glass, highlighting the exceptionally well-balanced acidity and attractive viscosity of this vin de paille-style wine. It shows aromas of sun-dried apricots, warm lemon meringue pie, a distinct citrus pithiness and has an intense silky mouthfeel."
- The 2023 Straw Wine comes from the same vineyard as usual, harvested from 45-year-old vines that produce high acidities. It underwent no malo due to the high natural concentration of malic acid during the four-week drying process on the farm. This has 335g/l residual sugar with a crucial 11g/l acidity. The bouquet is enticingly intense and beautifully defined, oozing with wild honey, quince and Clementine. The palate is impeccably balanced with a killer line of acidity that slices through the tangy honeyed fruit. Almost crystalline on the finish, it lingers long in the mouth with amazing purity.
