The Australian spirits industry is experiencing a real boom in the last few decades. Since 2014, its footprint has grown from just 28 distilleries to now over 350, with more than 60% of these based in rural and regional areas. Rutherglen Distillery is based in a small town north-east of Melbourne and named after the eponymous Scottish town. This single malt has been matured in French and American oak ex-wine casks, followed by an extended maturation in barrels which have previously held Muscat fortified wine. Expect a creamy texture, filled with rich dark fruits and sweet malt notes.
