The 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru has a creamy nose with touches of white chocolate, almond and chamomile. However, considering the vineyard in question, I would have liked more mineralité and terroir expression. A bit of alcoholic warmth develops in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Tightly coiled citrus fruit, orange zest and patisserie, though it doesn`t fully deliver the tour de force finish you want from a "Monty". Let`s see what a few years in bottle will do. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. - Neil Martin
Owned by the Henriot family since 1995, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of France’s oldest wine estates with a history that spans nearly three centuries. It is also one of the largest landowners in Burgundy, with vineyard holdings totalling approximately 130 hectares. This is their 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru, where Bouchard acquired a 0.88-hectare parcel in 1838. The Montrachet appellation dates back to the 13th century and is considered the ‘king of kings’.
