Masseto 2019

HED39754 75cl 15%
Masseto 2019 is a full-bodied Supertuscan wine produced near Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast. The wines of Masseto are produced from vines first planted in the 1980s. The estate is situated on a magical hillside overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea near Bolgheri. `Masseto` was named after the rock-hard clusters of blue clay known as ‘massi’ that form on the vineyard’s surface. Originally the brainchild of Lodovico Antinori, the Masseto estate has been owned by the prestigious Tuscan Frescobaldi family since 2005. "The 2019 Masseto is fabulous. Silky, gracious and super-refined, the 2019 is a total knock-out. So often Masseto is a powerhouse at this stage, but the 2019 is so elegant, so precise. This is the first year that includes Cabernet Franc, 10% in this case. I can’t say I am at all surprised given how much Franc has added to Massetino. Red berry fruit, mocha, cinnamon and blood orange lend freshness throughout. The 2019 has just been bottle, so it`s early. But there certainly appears to be a lot to look forward to." Antonio Galloni, 2022

Masseto

A stand-out name on the Tuscan wine scene, the wines of Masseto are produced from vines first planted in the 1980s. The estate is situated on Italy’s Tuscan Coast, on a magical hillside overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea near the small village of Bolgheri. 'Masseto' was named after the rock-hard clusters of blue clay known as ‘massi’ that form on the vineyard’s surface. Originally the brainchild of Lodovico Antinori, the Masseto estate has been owned by the prestigious Tuscan Frescobaldi family since 2005.

In the words of Estate Director, Axel Heinz, 'At Masseto, we try to do as little as possible to the wines. Our goal is simply to capture the essence of nature and take it to the highest level. This is about an amazing, very challenging, vineyard and wine made with great simplicity. We have tanks. We have barrels. We have gravity flow. And we have people who care about the wine. That’s it. That’s our philosophy.'
