Jean-Pierre Lafond established his estate in 1970 and, as an avid horse racing fan, named it after a famous horse called Roquepine. La Ferme Romaine is a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre from 30-year-old vines in the southern Rhône appellation of Lirac. Deep ruby in colour, it has a complex nose of morello cherry, black raspberry, cinnamon and black pepper. Full-bodied and firm on the palate, it is rich and dark fruited, with wonderful aromatic nuances of dried herbs and distinctive mineral notes. This is an excellent wine from one of the leading producers in the region.
