The 2019 Léoville Las-Cases is tasted from two bottles, but it is the second that really delivers the goods. It has a beautifully-defined bouquet with blackberry, black olive, subtle marine scents and touches of crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, cohesive, quite high toned towards the finish with touches of mint and cedar. Very fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. - Neil Martin
Owned by the Delon family since the mid-20th century, Château Léoville-Las Cases is a Second Growth wine estate situated in the Saint-Julien appellation. The property covers 98 hectares of vineyards, which soils are mostly gravel over sand and clay, with some areas where the clay reaches the surface. The 2019 vintage is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged in 90% new oak. The wine has immense depth, boasting notes of cassis, dark berries, tobacco leaves and pencil shavings. Presented here in a increasingly popular half bottle size.
