Legend Rivesaltes Gerard Bertrand (Ex Domaine) 1948
Rivesaltes is an appellation for the historic vin doux naturel sweet wines of the eastern Roussillon area in southwestern France. Produced from all three types of Grenache grapes (Noir, Blanc and Gris), it is produced via ‘mutage’, whereby fermentation is halted at the desired level of sweetness by the addition of neutral grape spirit. The ‘Legend’ series from Gerard Bertrand represents exceptionally limited releases of old wines whose origin other than appellation, vintage and blend has not been divulged. The 1948 is amber in colour with golden highlights, offering notes of prunes, cocoa, wood and toasted almonds. Rich, viscous and sweet, it makes an excellent pairing to nutty desserts, chocolate and strong cheeses.
