Le Petit Cheval 2010 is a medium- to full-bodied, Merlot-based red wine from the St-Emilion region of Bordeaux. First appearing in the 1988 vintage, Le Petit Cheval is the second wine of illustrious Saint-Émilion estate, Château Cheval Blanc. On average, 4,000 cases of Le Petit Cheval are made each vintage. Produced mostly from declassified wine from the Grand Vin that is blended with other selected parcels. "The second wine of Cheval shows such glorious yet subtle fruit with chocolate, dark berries such as blackberries, and a light spice character. A walnut undertone. It`s soft and silky with wonderful balance and beauty. It goes on for minutes." James Suckling, 2013
The 2010 Le Petit Cheval has a fragrant and well-defined bouquet with perfumed red cherries, boysenberry and mint aromas, focused, lively and full of vim and vigour. The oak is very well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, slightly powdery in texture with a meaty, rather dry and ferrous finish. I wonder where this will go? Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

Chateau Cheval Blanc

Chateau Cheval Blanc

With a history dating back as least as far as the 16th century, Château Cheval Blanc is considered by many to be one of the finest estates in Bordeaux. Located on the Right Bank in the celebrated Saint-Émilion appellation. One of only four wines to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the classification of Saint-Émilion wine, the estate has three main soil types: clay, gravel and sand. Red grape plantings are made up of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot and are used to produce wines with marvellous aromatics, with floral and smoky nuances, aged 100% in new oak.

In addition to the highly-coveted first wine, the estate produces a second red wine, Le Petit Cheval which made its first appearance in the 1988 vintage. A white wine, known as Le Petit Cheval Blanc, is also made, produced from predominantly Sauvignon Blanc together with a smaller percentage of Sémillon.
