Bodega Lanzaga is the Rioja-based project of acclaimed winemaker, Telmo Rodriguez. Founded in 1998, the estate now covers 15 hectares of scrupulously sourced vineyards of distinctive character and quality, with Las Beatas being a small 1.9-hectare vineyard planted in the north-western part of Rioja Alavesa. Whilst still youthfully broody and shy, the 2016 evidently has the hallmarks of an exceptional wine of remarkable aromatic complexity and unerring elegance. Impeccably balanced and refined, it offers up notes of crushed blackberries, raspberry, wild herbs and chalky minerality. This is a serious wine that will warrant a few years in the cellar before approaching but should flourish with time.
