Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a prestigious winery located in the Sauternes region of Bordeaux. The estate is classified as a Premier Cru Classé in the official Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855, which reflects its historical reputation for producing high-quality wines. Lafaurie-Peyraguey is renowned for its production of sweet, dessert-style wines made primarily from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes. 2003 was a particularly hot and dry year in Bordeaux, which led to some challenges in the vineyards. However, the Sauternes region, including Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, managed to produce some excellent sweet wines in 2003 due to the botrytis cinerea fungus developing earlier than usual, concentrating the sugars and flavours in the grapes.
