Jim Barry The Armagh 1996 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard Shiraz from the Clare Valley of South Australia. First released in 1985 by the pioneering Clare Valley winemaker Jim Barry, the Armagh has become one of the most renowned Shiraz wines in Australia. The Armagh vineyard was named by the original Irish immigrants who settled there in 1849. In 1968, Jim Barry purchased the 3.3ha vineyard and made the wise decision to plant it with Shiraz vines. Today these very low-yielding vines produce an Australian icon. "Deep garnet-brick in colour, the 1996 Shiraz The Armagh is a bit funky with a gamey and animal character over notes of black earth, Indian spices, Marmite, menthol and cola. Medium to full-bodied, it is solidly built with a taut structure and an earthier, more savoury style." Wine Advocate, 2016
