Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir 2023 is a medium-bodied red wine from the Hemel-en-Aarde region of South Africa. Hamilton Russell Vineyards is a renowned South African winery situated in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, near the coastal town of Hermanus. Founded by Tim Hamilton Russell in 1975, the estate specializes in producing cool-climate wines, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Hamilton Russell Vineyards` Pinot Noir is considered one of South Africa`s finest examples of this varietal. The wine typically displays a beautiful balance of red fruit flavours, such as cherry and raspberry, along with earthy, savoury, and spicy notes.
- The 2023 Pinot Noir matured in one-third new French oak for 14 months. It has a fresh and perfumed bouquet, perhaps one of the most floral and potpourri-like that I have encountered in recent years. You could almost mistake this for a Grenache. Fresh and vibrant, the palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, a crisp line of acidity and a touch of sour cherry on the finish. Very fine.
