Glen Moray
Constructed in 1897 on the site of a former brewery on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin, Glen Moray distillery endured a stop-start early history before it was purchased by Glenmorangie owner Macdonald & Muir in 1920. The company (renamed Glenmorangie plc in 1996) remained in control until the early 2000s, when Glen Moray was purchased by LVMH. The French spirits group La Martiniquaise purchased the distillery from LVMH in 2008.
Historically, Glen Moray’s rich, fruity style of Bourbon cask-aged Speyside single malt has been dedicated to blends, or to produce ‘budget malt’ for supermarkets. Over the years there have been several official house bottlings, while sporadic releases from independent bottlers can occasionally be found.
Glen Moray was one of the first distilleries to introduce white wine finish whiskies – releasing a Chardonnay finish and two Chenin Blanc finishes in 1999. More recently, several peated styles of Glen Moray malt have also been released.
