Situated in the heart of the Côte Rôtie hills, the family-run Domaine Jamet is run by Jean-Paul and his wife Corinne together with their elder son Loïc. Their Côte Rôtie is made from 100% Syrah grapes, sourced from twenty different parcels of vineyards, with whole bunch fermentation and 22 months spent aging in barrel (around 15% new).

To quote the critic Jeb Dunnuck, `...the 2019 Côte Rôtie has gorgeous, floral nuances that give way to more peppery, meaty, gamey notes that are the hallmark of this wonderful estate. Medium to full-bodied, it has considerable elegance and finesse on the palate (Jean-Paul compares this to his 2001 and 2007), silky tannins, and a beautiful finish.`

The 2022 Galatrona, 100% Merlot, is another super-attractive wine from Petrolo. It offers lovely up-front appeal to match its easygoing personality. Blue/purplish fruit, licorice, lavender, spice and mocha meld together. The 2022 naturally does not have the structure or depth of the top years, but that simply was not possible in this vintage. - Antonio Galloni
