Guigal Côte-Rôtie Hommage à Etienne Guigal 1989 is a full-bodied Syrah red wine from the Côte-Rôtie appellation of the northern Rhône. Hommage à Etienne is an exceptionally rare and sought-after Guigal Côte-Rôtie – it has only ever been produced in 1989 (the year after Etienne Guigal`s death), 1990 and 2005, and exists solely in magnum format. It is a blend of Syrahs from two parcels. Côte Brune La Pommière (these are the first vines worked by Etienne at the age of 14), and La Viria, a newer plot bordering the famed La Landonne.

E. Guigal

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the ‘La-Las’, which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine’s top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal’s Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l’Hospice (the source of one of Guigal’s top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
