Bodega Colome Estate Malbec 2021 is a medium-bodied Malbec produced by Bodega Colome in the Salta region of Argentina. Bodega Colomé was established in the Upper Calchaquí Valley in Salta in 1831. It is the oldest winery in Argentina. Colome`s Estate Malbec was produced from three very high-altitude vineyards in Salta in the extreme north of Argentina. La Brava Estate at 1,700m, Colomé Estate at 2,300m and El Arenal Estate at 2,600m. All of these vineyards are farmed biodynamically. A small amount of Tannat was included. The wine exhibits concentrated blackberry, raspberry and cherry fruit, with notes of violets, sweet spices and minerals. The wine is finely structured with velvety tannins and a fine, lingering finish.
The 2021 Malbec 1831 comes from an ancient vineyard at Estancia Colomé, where pre-phylloxera vines are interplanted with other varieties, but only Malbec is selected for this wine. It is aged for 18 months in French barrels (225L and 500L, 40% new, 60% used). The ripeness is perfectly judged. It opens with blackberry and plum notes, hints of spice and a backdrop of fine oak. Broad and plush in texture, it moves slowly on the palate, leaving a slightly clingy finish. Rich and flavorful, it’s marked by solar energy and balanced maturity.
