D`Esclans Whispering Angel 2024 is produced from a blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Rolle (Vermentino) grapes. The wine exhibits a pale, salmon hue, capturing attention and hinting at its refreshing character. On the palate, it reveals an intricate balance, offering a dry taste profile that is both savoury and nuanced. Crafted through meticulous selection of free-run and press juices, this rosé undergoes fermentation in stainless steel, ensuring clean flavour development under temperature control. Produced by Château d`Esclans, a winery credited with revolutionising rosé from the Provence region.

I was truly impressed with the nose of the 2011 Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino, a blend of grapes from Adrianna (Gualtallary) and Nicasia (Altamira) vineyards in the Uco Valley. Even if the grapes are sourced from the same vineyards as the Adrianna and Nicosia bottling, this wine is quite different. Here the plots are selected from the granitic parts that give it a different, austere texture. There is a seamless granularity with the tannins that go in a straight line, and keep going and going. Super! 11,000 bottles were filled. - Luis Gutierrez

(from later-picked vines in the Adrianna and Nicasia vineyards): Bright, deep ruby. Classic Malbec aromas and flavors of blackberry, bitter chocolate, licorice and violet display an almost liqueur-like sweetness. Wonderfully rich and fine-grained; at once thick and bright, showing a sexy sweetness that verges on exotic. Finishes sappy, glossy and powerful, with noble tannins melting into the wine's chocolatey fruit.

Catena Zapata

Catena Zapata

Over more than a century, the Catenas have evolved into the pre-eminent winemaking family in Argentina. The family’s history in wine goes back to 1902 when Nicola Catena purchased his first Mendoza vineyard. Much more recently, in 1997, his grandson, Nicolás Zapata pioneered the idea of fine wine from Argentina. Inspired by Bordeaux and Napa, he was the first person to ally Old World winemaking sensibilities to the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza.

Bodega Catena Zapata is now managed by (Dr) Laura Catena, who continues to uphold the the family’s standard of excellence, harnessing the high-altitude terroir of the Andes through precision viticulture and a highly granular cellar regime to produce one of the finest wine portfolios in Argentina.

The flagship wine of the Catena portfolio is the Nicolás Catena Zapata cuvée in which ungrafted Malbec is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon from ‘grand cru’ multiple plots, all processed via 200 micro-vinifications which are then blended together and matured for 24 months in French oak, with a further two years in bottle before release.
