The 2021 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has a tightly wound bouquet comprised of dark berry fruit and touches of undergrowth and tar. Broody! The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, fine acidity, a bit of chewiness and a strong marine influence on the finish. This will need some time in bottle. - Neil Martin
A former manager of the prestigious Pommard estate Domaine du Comte Armand, Benjamin Leroux is a first-generation winemaker who launched his own label in 2007. Since then, his hand-crafted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay cuvées from top-tier appellations in Burgundy have become highly sought-after across the world. This release is from Clos Saint-Denis, one of the five Grand Cru vineyards within the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation. Facing towards the east, Clos Saint-Denis receives the gentle morning sunlight, while also finding shelter from the westerly winds. This advantageous orientation allows the grapes to attain complete phenolic ripeness, all the while preserving a crucial underpinning of acidity.
