Bodegas Roda is one of the newest wineries in Rioja and very much represents the modern side of the region, favouring short maturation times versus more traditional extended barrel ageing. Cirsion was first released in 1998 and is a vineyard and barrel selection of 100% Tempranillo aged for 8 months in French oak and a further 4 months in bottle. The 2009 is full-bodied and grippy but exudes delicious layers of red and black fruits with savoury overtones of cigar box, dried flowers and liquorice. With such intensity of fruit and structure this may benefit from further cellaring and decanting is advised if consumed in the near future.
