The Chevalier Montrachet Michel Colin Deleger 1998 is a notable expression of White Burgundy. This wine reveals a structured profile, showcasing minerality and complexity typical of its terroir. Michel Colin Deleger, a respected producer in Burgundy, has built a reputation for meticulous vineyard practices, often focusing on low yields to enhance quality. With its age, this wine offers insight into the character of the region and the potential for Chardonnays from this prestigious appellation.
Very closed nose hints at apple, nutmeg and spearmint. Tightly wound and bracing, with the wine's stoniness masking its underlying sweet fruit. This grand cru offers lovely brightness, not to mention considerable power, but comes across as a bit bony compared to the '99. But this penetrating, austere wine appears to have the balance and intensity to reward aging. Very unevolved, youthfully minty finish.
