Château de Beaucastel is one of the oldest and finest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. 1989 saw the debut release of the flagship wine, Hommage a Jacques Perrin, which is only made in the best years and has production of around 350 cases on average. 2014 was not universally successful for every producer in the region but this is a sublime release that would almost certainly be a candidate for the best wine of the vintage. It is classically full-bodied and rich, with immensely concentrated layers of spicy black fruits, wild herbs, liquorice, smoked meats and crushed stone minerality. Though perhaps without the usual 40 to 50-year lifespan this should drink beautifully over the next two decades.
