Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the iconic red wines of the Southern Rhône Tracing its history back to 1549, when Pierre de Beaucastel purchased his first plot of Coudoulet vines, the estate has been operated since 1909 by successive generations of the Perrin family. Beaucastel continues to reside among the elite producers of the region, each successive vintage crafting terroir red wines which harness the complementary characteristics of the appellation`s 13 traditional grape varieties. "The atypically Grenache-dominated 1998 Châteauneuf du Pape is fully mature and gives up tons of kirsch, garrigue, liquorice and a touch of gaminess in its full-bodied, layered and ripe personality. More rounded and sexy than most vintages, it has no hard edges, plenty of mid-palate depth and a great finish. I see no reason to delay gratification, but it will certainly hold for 5-10 years."
