Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées Michel Niellon 2023 showcases the legacy of Michel Niellon, who has cultivated a reputation for producing notable Burgundian wines since expanding from his original 4-hectare estate. This vintage is derived from less than 2 hectares of vines, planted between 1963 and 1993. The vinification process comprises 30% stainless steel and 70% oak barrel, which contributes to a structured yet focused profile. This cuvée illustrates the Les Chaumées vineyard`s mineral character, integrating subtle notes of stone fruit and a fine acidity.
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Chaumées 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet that is a sibling of the Clos Saint-Jean. The nose is very precise with hints of white peace, orchard fruit and lemon sherbet. It's livelier than Niellon's other Premier Crus. The palate is nicely defined with fine depth and more substance. The slightly honeyed finish will be irresistible. This may well end up at the top of my banded score.
