Nestled in the heart of Pomerol, Château Bourgneuf has been in the ownership of the Vayron family since 1821. The vineyards, spanning approximately nine hectares, combine diverse soil types, including pure clay, clay and sand, and gravel. The 2020 vintage suggests aromas of blackberries, anise, spices, and floral undertones. The palate is fruit-driven, with a fresh acidity and ripe tannins. Available here in half-bottles.
The 2020 Bourgneuf is another terrific wine from the Vayron family. Rich and quite deep, Bourgneuf is a heady Pomerol in 2020, but never abandons its essential classicism. Sumptuous dark-fleshed fruit, spice, chocolate and dried flowers are all dialed up. Readers who have known Bourgneuf for years may find the 2020 a bit over the top. I am really interested to see where this direction goes.
